The average time it takes to experience erectile dysfunction medication in the United States is now 7.6 hours. That’s roughly 30 hours of an average visit a day.
So far this year, the federal Food and Drug Administration has approved over 7,000 prescription ED medications, the most common being Viagra and Cialis. But what if it took longer to see those drugs available to the general public? And what if, say, a doctor can stop prescribing Viagra after seeing that it was approved for use in the U. S.? And are these medications still available to anyone under the age of 18?
The answer is yes. For years, the FDA has been searching for ways to limit the number of Viagra-type drugs on the market, including older ones that are no longer being prescribed by doctors. In response, some states and health programs have created laws that restrict prescription drug use, a move that may have the unintended consequence of expanding the reach of those medications.
But, experts say, it’s unclear exactly how long these drugs would last. That’s because there’s also a risk that they could be misused, which could lead to dangerous side effects.
“When you’re older, you’re typically told that you’re not going to have sex again,” says Joshua Cohen, a urologist at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital.
Cohen says that, unlike some older drugs, Viagra isn’t for everyone. But, when older men are prescribed Viagra, they’re typically prescribed a lower dose.
The FDA has also considered whether Viagra’s label could expand the market for older pills, which are less likely to be prescribed by doctors than older ones.
But Cohen says that doesn’t mean it won’t. “What we’ve done is we’ve also considered whether it would expand the availability of older drugs and increase the number of medications that we could take,” he says.
Viagra, for instance, is only available by prescription from a doctor in the U. S. But Cohen says he’s not sure if Viagra’s label is still available in the U. and if it’s still needed in some circumstances.
“There’s no requirement that we have a pharmacy that makes a prescription,” he says. “But there’s no requirement that we have a pharmacy that sells a generic version of a prescription drug.”

“There’s no real alternative,” says Cohen. “There’s a good, safe alternative. But there’s a risk that it won’t be available to everyone.”

But Cohen says that doesn’t mean it won’t expand the market for Viagra. Viagra has been in use since the late 1990s and has been available over the Internet since the late 2000s.
But he says that’s not necessarily the case.
“There is a good, safe alternative,” he says. “But there’s a risk that it won’t be available to everyone.
